Creative Artwork by kolleen Bookey

A versatile artist with a passion for dynamic color and bold imagery, I work primarily in acrylic but have spent years mastering a range of mediums—from custom airbrushing and watercolor to large-scale murals, design, and graphics. My portfolio includes five award-winning motorcycles recognized for Best in Graphics, numerous murals gracing everything from towering building exteriors to intimate indoor spaces, and a completed rodeo series in acrylic that captures the grit and spirit of the West.

I grew up in Redding, California, where I spent my early years breaking trails in Mountain Gate and developing a love of adventure that continues to inspire my work today. Alongside my art, I am also an author. I’ve written a five-book series named The Fighter Series, and I am currently working on a children’s book called Adventures with Miss Sassy, Friends & Family. Whether on canvas, the side of a building, or the page of a book, my creative journey is all about celebrating color, storytelling, and the beauty of the world around us.

"Every brushstroke is a brave little decision.”

Art, to me, is a decompressor. I’m self-taught, and about 90% of what I do is freehand. Even so, I’ll be the first to admit, sometimes I need a little help too.

Most of the time, though, I can see what I want to paint long before the first brushstroke. The image shows up in my head and just stays there, sometimes for years, refusing to fade until I finally bring it to life. When I step up to the canvas with a brush in my hand, it’s like flipping a switch.  I create.

Some paintings take ten hours. Others stretch into thirty-six, sometimes more. I fell in love with oils, but I also love acrylics for one big reason: they dry fast. In the desert heat, you’ve got to move even faster. Working with acrylic feels like layering watercolor on canvas, building depth and movement without chasing that heavy, opaque look. It’s fast, it’s fluid, and it’s exactly the kind of challenge I love

Here are a handful of pieces I’ve painted over the years. Each one started as an image I couldn’t shake until it finally made its way onto canvas.
